Brimming With Intolerance for Sly Synthetic Additives

If you think that your skin cream bottle is full to the brim with goodness for your skin (and you're not using Nadarra), think again. Cosmetic manufacturers need cheap substances to fill their products in order to reduce costs and provide more ‘value for quantity’ to their customers. Most skin care products on the market contain a number of common ‘fillers’ that account for a large percentage of mLs, with a smattering of therapeutic ingredients on the side.

Propylene Glycol
One of the most common fillers is propylene glycol. This ingredient is said to smooth and condition skin. It’s a clear, thick, odorless substance derived from diol alcohol. It’s a penetrant that can break down the outermost layers of skin, delivering other substances into deeper layers of the epidermis, and is miscible with water. In addition to skin care, it’s also used as antifreeze to de-ice aircraft and as a working fluid in hydraulic presses. It acts as a humectant, keeping tobacco and even food moist. Propylene glycol has been shown to cause reproductive and fetal defects, central nervous system depression, and mutagenic effects—but only in large doses, of course. Unless it is used in cat food, in which case the cat food is considered 'adulterated' and unsafe to sell, as legislated by the FDA.

Petroleum/Petrolatum/Soft Parrafin
Petroleum is a heavy oil that is a by-product of the oil extraction and refinement process. It was first discovered forming on oil rigs in 1859 when it caused the machines to malfunction. It is a flammable substance, a cancer suspect, and causes skin discoloration. Since it is insoluble in water, it is thought to ‘moisturize’ by preventing water loss when applied to the skin (sort of like saran wrap on vegetables). Instead, it creates a dependency whereby skin no longer functions normally once the artificial barrier is gone, causing a need to reapply.

Our Alternative
Nadarra products are created based on what’s best for the skin. Check your personal care product labels! If your products contain propylene glycol, petrolatum, or any of the many other cheap, synthetic substances manufacturers use to increase their bottom line, give them a toss and free yourself from the unnecessary chemical burden!
